Chapter Twenty

“I hope you enjoyed your stay,” the lady at the office counter said as he checked out of the campground.

“More than you'll ever know,” Nathan said with a grin. “Have a good day.”

He had to admit he slept like a baby after their second pleasure round. And if they wouldn’t have overheated themselves, he would have loved to have held her in his arms until they both fell asleep. But he was just thankful she decided to sleep beside him. That was unexpected.

Pushing open the door, he walked outside into the frigid cold air and into the motorhome that was parked not too far away. Joanne was sitting in the front seat, sipping away on her coffee.

“We're ready to go?” she asked.

“Yep,” he said, sitting in the driver's seat. She had a radiant glow about her this morning. Her cheeks were rosy, and the look in her eyes told him she was thinking about what they did the night before. That experience was going to be hard to top. He'd have to think long and hard about what he could do to surprise her tonight.

“Where's our next stop?”

“I was hoping to make it to Mount Rushmore today, but it took us longer than I expected yesterday to reach Missoula in the snow, so I think we may have to stop somewhere along the way.”

“Any thoughts?” she asked.

He hadn't thought much about it, not while he had Joanne in his arms, but there would be time to do that at lunchtime. “When we stop for lunch, we can go over the map. Maybe see if there's any interesting sights to see along the way.”

Honestly, he'd love to prolong their trip for as long as possible, but he knew she needed to get there on time for the reading—if there was actually a reading. He had a feeling her family was going to try something.

He couldn't figure out why her family would treat her the way they did. She was the type of woman you wanted to give the world to and who deserved the sun and the moon. He could see why her husband fell in love with her. It wasn't right that she had been alone since her husband died. She had so much to offer a man.

“Sounds good,” she replied with a smile.

Nathan snapped his seatbelt into the clasp and put the motorhome into drive, beginning their exit out of the park. It was a gorgeous area that he would have loved to have stayed another day, especially with her, but it was time to get the show on the road.

“Do you think Yellowstone would be open?” she asked.

“Unfortunately, most of the roads through the park are closed in the winter, so it's probably best to bypass it completely.”

She sighed with disappointment. “I guess that's to be expected. I haven't been to Yellowstone before.”

“Maybe if all goes well, you and I can go sometime.”

“If my son doesn't kill you first,” she said.

“Have you heard from him today?” He'd heard her phone chime a few times, but she didn't take it out to look at it.
